Il villaggio di Craonne, oggi conosciuto per la famosa canzone "Chanson de Craonne", fu teatro di feroci combattimenti tra francesi e tedeschi all'inizio della prima guerra mondiale. Nell'aprile-maggio del 1917, ciò che rimaneva del villaggio fu distrutto dall'artiglieria francese. Il luogo divenne poi una "zona rossa" e un "nuovo" villaggio fu costruito in un sito più basso, tra il 1921 e il 1927, principalmente grazie all'aiuto finanziario della Svezia che finanziò il municipio. Il sito di Craonne vecchia è gestito da Staatsbosbeheer. Qui troverai un arboreto e un breve percorso con pannelli informativi per trovare tracce del vecchio villaggio...
