La chiesa fu distrutta durante la Prima Guerra Mondiale, ma fu lasciata così com'era per testimoniare le devastazioni del conflitto e oggi possiamo contemplare le sue rovine.
Ma anche perché qui, nel giugno 1917, furono fucilati tre soldati del 18° reggimento di fanteria - Casimir Canel, Alphonse Didier e Jean-Louis Lasplacettes - per essersi rifiutati di tornare al fronte. Anche un altro loro compagno, Vincent Moulia, doveva essere giustiziato ma riuscì a fuggire.
Nel 2009 è stata apposta una targa commemorativa sul muro del cimitero adiacente per ricordare questo sinistro episodio...
