De kerk werd verwoest tijdens de Eerste Wereldoorlog, maar werd zo gelaten om te getuigen van de verwoestingen van het conflict en vandaag kunnen we de ruïnes bekijken.
Maar ook omdat hier in juni 1917 drie soldaten van het 18e Regiment Infanterie werden doodgeschoten - Casimir Canel, Alphonse Didier en Jean-Louis Lasplacettes - omdat ze weigerden terug te keren naar het front. Een van hun kameraden, Vincent Moulia, zou ook worden geëxecuteerd maar wist te ontsnappen.
In 2009 werd een gedenkplaat aangebracht op de muur van de aangrenzende begraafplaats om ons te herinneren aan deze sinistere episode...
