La scuola degli Annales è un orientamento nella storiografia che rappresenta una continuazione dei tentativi di rinnovamento nella storiografia tra il 1900 e il 1930, che si opponeva al realismo storico dell' historicismo di Leopold von Ranke. Prende il nome dalla rivista Annales d'histoire économique et sociale, fondata nel 1929, che è il centro di questo movimento. Al centro vi era il rifiuto della storiografia basata sugli eventi e il tentativo di realizzare una scienza umana complessiva. Gli storici francesi Lucien Febvre e Marc Bloch sono i fondatori della rivista e sono considerati i padri di questa corrente.
