Nel cuore del centro storico di Saint-Jean-Pied-de-Port, scoprite questo edificio dalla storia pittoresca e unica.
Ancora oggi, un velo d'ombra avvolge questo edificio dal nome evocativo. Questo nome attuale e recente unisce due realtà storiche distinte, la presenza dei vescovi di Bayonne durante il Grande Scisma d'Occidente e la vocazione penitenziaria attestata già nel XVIII secolo. L'ingresso si apre su un corpo di guardia seguito da celle disciplinari. Una stretta scala conduce a una vasta sala medievale a volta.
