Fondato nel 1876, questo museo è uno dei più ricchi del Sud-Ovest. Situato nel cuore storico della città in quattro palazzi rinascimentali, presenta un ampio panorama di storia dell'arte: dipinti, sculture, mobili e terrecotte europee dal XVI al XX secolo. Il museo è rinomato per la sua ricca collezione di opere spagnole del XVIII e XIX secolo, tra cui dipinti di Goya (il famoso "Autoritratto").
Le sale presentano pezzi archeologici provenienti dal dipartimento, tra cui l'imperdibile Venere del Mas, antichità orientali del diplomatico libanese C. Aboussouan, e per le belle arti, tra gli altri, dipinti raccolti dal duca di Aiguillon, ministro di Luigi XV, dipinti europei dal XVI al XIX secolo tra cui paesaggi di Corot, Sisley, Monet... e opere di Bissière, Lalanne, P. Lèbe per il XX secolo.
