Il villaggio di Rouffignac-Saint-Cernin è un comune della foresta di Barade situato sulle colline più alte del Périgord Noir in Dordogna, circondato da una natura varia che offre paesaggi sontuosi. Prima o dopo Lascaux, si può visitare la Grotte de Rouffignac, nota anche come Grotte aux cents Mammouths, le cui pitture rupestri sono databili all'ultimo e medio periodo Maddaleniano, cioè 11.000 anni a.C..
L'architettura del villaggio di Rouffignac-Saint Cernin-de-Reilhac si differenzia da quella dei villaggi circostanti, a causa della sua tragica storia durante la Seconda Guerra Mondiale: il 31 marzo 1944, il villaggio di Rouffignac scomparve sotto le bombe incendiarie. Solo la chiesa con il suo portale del 1530, il suo interno sgargiante e alcune case vicine furono risparmiate. Il villaggio fu completamente ricostruito a partire dal 1948.
