La maestosa cattedrale domina la città di Bourges. La cattedrale di Saint-Etienne, patrimonio mondiale dell'UNESCO dal 1992, è unica nel suo genere. Capolavoro dell'arte gotica, ammirevole per le sue proporzioni e l'unità del suo disegno, testimonia la potenza del cristianesimo nella Francia medievale. La lunghezza della navata centrale e l'assenza del transetto sono caratteristiche che colpiscono l'unicità della cattedrale.
La cattedrale ospita una rara collezione di vetrate che vanno dal XIII al XVII secolo.
Salite i 396 gradini della torre nord, o "Torre del Burro", dalla cui sommità si gode di un'incredibile vista della cattedrale e di un panorama della città. Accessibile solo in luglio e agosto.
