La battaglia in Alsazia costituì il primo importante scontro tra Gaio Giulio Cesare e le popolazioni germaniche comandate dal principe suebo, Ariovisto . Cesare riuscì, come in altre occasioni, a battere un esercito in numero nettamente maggiore del suo, e questo, oltre ad accrescerne il prestigio, gli permise di continuare la sua opera di sottomissione dell'intera Gallia.
