Sorta nel 1952, l'isola è oggi un luogo emblematico per la creazione contemporanea, dove i secoli si intrecciano. Il patrimonio autentico dell'antica tenuta di Vassivière incontra l'architettura moderna del Centre International d'art et du paysage.
Nel Bosco delle Sculture, unico al mondo, le opere di land-art si affiancano agli alberi secolari. "Pattinate" sulla creazione di Otro; ammirate l'unicorno di Eiffel dalla torre del faro. Nel forno ancestrale della "Pierre à pain", Benoît, il panettiere, lascia fermentare la sua creatività e propone i suoi pani tradizionali cotti sul fuoco a legna. C'è anche il geocaching di Terra-Aventura, un giardino di piante semplici, il ristorante Le Pré du Lac e un negozio di prodotti regionali dell'isola, oltre alla mostra "Les arts en l'île". L'isola è accessibile tutto l'anno, a piedi. In estate, con una navetta elettrica o un battello navetta.
