Questa piazza porta il nome di un ex sindaco di Mézières, dal nome del suo fondatore, sindaco di Mézières (dal 1878 al 1903). Nel 1892, di fronte al bastione nord di Mézières, questa piazza comunale fu sistemata dai disoccupati di Mézières. Il 30 luglio 1893, il ministro della Guerra, il generale Loizillon, inaugurò la statua in bronzo del cavaliere Bayard, a pochi passi dalla Torre della Scuola. La statua è alta 2,80 metri e il suo piedistallo 4 metri. L'opera dello scultore Aristide Croisy (Fagnon, 1840 - Parigi, 1899) fu portata via dai tedeschi nel 1917, per essere fusa in cannoni. Un'altra opera che merita una visita è il bassorilievo "Il pellegrino della vita". Questa piazza è completamente occupata ogni ultimo fine settimana di agosto per il famoso festival "Cabaret Vert", un festival rock and roll, dove la moneta di scambio è il "bayard"!
