Dette torv bærer navnet efter en tidligere borgmester i Mézières, til ære for sin stifter, borgmester i Mézières (fra 1878 til 1903). I 1892 blev dette bytorv anlagt over for den nordlige fæstningsmur i Mézières af de arbejdsløse fra Mézières. Den 30. juli 1893 indviede forsvarsministeren, general Loizillon, den bronzestatue af ridder Bayard, placeret et stenkast væk fra Skolen. Statuen er 2,80 m høj og soklen 4 m. Værket af billedhuggeren Aristide Croisy (Fagnon, 1840 - Paris, 1899) blev i 1917 taget af tyskerne for at blive støbt til kanoner. Et andet værk er bestemt et besøg værd: et bas-relief med titlen "Le Pélerin de la vie" (Livets Pilegrim). Dette torv bliver hver sidste weekend i august helt beslaglagt til den berømte festival "Cabaret Vert", en rock and roll festival, hvor byttemønten er "bayard"!
