Mortroux è un comune rurale confinante con 6 comuni: Lourdoueix-Saint-Pierre a ovest, Moutier-Malcard a est, La Forêt du Temple e Nouziers a nord e Malval e Linard a sud. Con decreto del 20 giugno 1836, il comune di La Forêt du Temple fu abolito e il suo territorio fu fuso con quello di Mortroux; ma nel 1883 fu ristabilito come comune.

Oggi il comune di Mortroux comprende una città e una decina di frazioni. Si estende su una superficie di 1.328 ettari.

Nello stemma del comune adottato nel 2004, il gules e il pots ricordano che Mortroux era un tempo un rinomato villaggio di Poitiers. Il capo in ermellino di questo stemma evoca le armi della regione del Limousin.

Il villaggio ha mantenuto viva la memoria dei suoi artisti, con la presenza di belle ceramiche utilizzate come terminali che adornano diversi tetti del villaggio
