Belfast è un distretto con il titolo ufficiale di città, sull'isola d'Irlanda ed è la città più grande dell'Irlanda del Nord nella provincia dell'Ulster, e secondo una stima del 2018 ha una popolazione di 342.000 abitanti. È dal 1922 la capitale dell'Irlanda del Nord ed è la capitale della contea di Antrim.
Il nome Belfast deriva dall'irlandese Béal Feirste, ovvero bocca del Farset, il fiume attorno al quale è costruita la città. Il fiume che si è unito al più grande fiume Lagan, oggi ha poca notorietà e scorre in un tubo sotto la città.
