Il Rule Water è un fiume nella zona dei Borders scozzesi in Scozia e un affluente del fiume Teviot.
Il Rule Water nasce nella Foresta di Wauchope e passa per Hobkirk, Bonchester Bridge, Hallrule, Abbotrule e Bedrule fino a confluire nel fiume Teviot a Spittal-on-Rule.
Il comandante inglese Lord Hertford inviò John Musgrove e George Heron lungo il Rule Water nel novembre del 1542 e bruciarono luoghi chiamati Rule e Abbot's Rule. Durante la guerra nota ora come il Rough Wooing, Hertford riportò che il 16 settembre 1545, "Ho inviato una buona banda di 1500 cavalieri leggeri con la mia guida [e] Sir Robert Bowes, i quali, dalle 5 del mattino fino alle 3 del pomeriggio, razziarono lungo le acque di Tyvyote e Rowle, 6 o 7 miglia oltre Jedburgh, e bruciarono 14 o 15 città e una grande quantità di ogni tipo di cereali". Un elenco di dodici luoghi lungo il Rule Water bruciati durante il raid comprende "Rowle, Spittel, Bedrowle, Rowlewood, The Wolles, Crossebewghe, Donnerles, Fotton, West Leas, Two walk mylnes, Troonyhill, Dupligis".
