Il Loch Lomond è il lago d'acqua dolce più grande (70 km²) della Gran Bretagna e si è formato circa diecimila anni fa per azione di un ghiacciaio. Il lago, lungo 38,6 km, è facilmente accessibile, rendendolo una delle mete più popolari per le gite di un giorno per i residenti di Glasgow. Per loro è solo un'ora di guida. Noterai presto che può essere affollato quando guidi lungo l'A82. Il lato ovest è stracolmo di strutture turistiche e ricreative. Il Loch Lomond è circondato da alcuni villaggi attraenti, come Balloch e Luss. Il Loch Lomond pende letteralmente verso il Parco Nazionale dei Trossachs, di cui fa anche parte. L'area ha un grande valore paesaggistico ed è al suo massimo colorito in autunno. Nientemeno che Sir Walter Scott rese famosa la regione; nelle sue storie Rob Roy e La Signora del Lago, i Trossachs sono l'ambientazione.
