San Giovanni Valdarno è un comune italiano di 16 607 abitanti della provincia di Arezzo in Toscana. Come indica il suo nome, si trova nella valle del fiume Arno. All'origine si chiamava Castel San Giovanni. Venne edificato per conto di Firenze sui progetti che Arnolfo di Cambio elaborava per realizzare gli avamposti del governo centrale, le "terre nuove fiorentine" . La struttura urbanistica del centro storico richiama l'organizzazione della città romana, con grande piazza centrale dalla quale partono i due assi principali perpendicolari tra loro, dai quali nascono le strade secondarie.
