Il comune di Cecina si trova nella parte terminale della Val di Cecina, in prossimità della foce dell'omonimo fiume, nell'Alta Maremma o Maremma Settentrionale, storicamente conosciuta come Maremma Pisana . Il territorio comunale, prevalentemente pianeggiante, è esteso per 42,48 km² e ricade nella Costa degli Etruschi.
