Sul ramo settentrionale del Lago Ceresio, fra Lugano e Porlezza, si affaccia il comune di Valsolda, costituito da due verdi ed aperti valloni convergenti nel torrente Soldo.
I due valloni sono dominati da una cinta montuosa disposta a semicerchio. Partendo da ovest, verso Lugano, si trovano il Monte Boglia , proviene il vallone occidentale), la Colmaregia e le Cime di Noresso e di Fiorina . A est si trovano invece l'Arabione o Torrione deriva il vallone orientale), il Bronzone , la Forcola e, verso Porlezza, i Monti Pizzoni .
