Il territorio comunale di Traversetolo è collocato in posizione pianeggiante e collinare, nella zona compresa tra i torrenti Parma a ovest ed Enza a est, che segna il confine con la provincia di Reggio nell'Emilia. Mentre nella pianura a nord predominano le zone coltivate a cereali, frumento e ortaggi, sui rilievi a sud si alternano prevalentemente i vigneti alle zone boscose, ove predominano i querceti. Diffusi nei terreni scoscesi argillosi e sabbiosi sono anche i calanchi, coperti da rade vegetazioni e arbusteti.
