Le prime tracce di un insediamento nella zona dell'attuale città di Adria risalgono al periodo tra il X e il VI secolo a.C., quando i Veneti costruirono palafitte sul terreno paludoso che, all'epoca, si affacciava sul mare.
All'inizio del VI secolo a.C. Adria era un insediamento etrusco posto sul fiume Adrias , che all'epoca sfociava nel mare e seguiva quello che oggi è il corso del Canal Bianco, ed era retta da un sovrano probabilmente scelto tra la nobiltà.
