Aosta ; l’antica Augusta Pretoria è un comune italiano di 33 132 abitanti, capoluogo della regione autonoma Valle d'Aosta.
La città di Aosta si trova all'incirca nel mezzo della Valle d'Aosta, nella piana in cui scorre il fiume principale della regione: la Dora Baltea. Su Aosta dominano importanti montagne, tra le quali la Becca di Nona, il Monte Emilius, la Pointe de Chaligne e la Becca di Viou.
La città è attraversata da nord a sud, all'altezza dell'Arco d'Augusto, dal torrente Buthier, uno dei numerosi affluenti della Dora Baltea.
