La provincia autonoma di Bolzano – Alto Adige è la più settentrionale delle province della regione Trentino-Alto Adige e d'Italia, con 535 829 abitanti e una superficie di 7398,38 km², che la rende la seconda provincia più estesa d'Italia dopo la provincia di Sassari.
Assieme alla provincia autonoma di Trento e al Tirolo, costituisce l'Euroregione Tirolo-Alto Adige-Trentino, corrispondente al territorio della regione storica del Tirolo, a cui è legato da motivi linguistici e culturali; inoltre, unitamente al Veneto e al Friuli-Venezia Giulia, appartiene alla macro-area geografica del Triveneto.
