La Carnia è una regione storico-geografica prevalentemente montana, situata nella parte nord-occidentale della provincia di Udine, in Friuli, comprendente buona parte delle Alpi Carniche italiane con le sue valli alpine, i cui comuni, nell'ambito della regione autonoma Friuli Venezia Giulia, afferiscono amministrativamente tutti all'UTI della Carnia. Il centro principale e capoluogo amministrativo è Tolmezzo.
