L'eccidio di Sant'Anna di Stazzema fu un crimine di guerra nazifascista compiuto dai soldati tedeschi di tre compagnie della 16. SS-Panzergrenadier-Division "Reichsführer-SS", comandata dal Gruppenführer Max Simon con l'ausilio di alcuni collaborazionisti italiani della RSI. All'alba del 12 agosto 1944 i reparti circondarono l'abitato di Sant'Anna , mentre un quarto si attestava più a valle, sopra il paese di Valdicastello, per bloccare ogni via di fuga. Nonostante agli inizi del mese Sant'Anna fosse stata dichiarata zona bianca dai tedeschi, in grado cioè di accogliere popolazione civile sfollata, in poco più di tre ore furono massacrate 560 persone, tra cui molti bambini.
