L'Università degli Studi di Napoli Federico II è un'università statale fra le più antiche d'Italia e del mondo.
Fondata il 5 giugno 1224 dall'Imperatore del Sacro Romano Impero e Re di Sicilia Federico II di Svevia, è la principale accademia napoletana ed una delle più importanti in Italia e in Europa. Celebre per essere la più antica università fondata attraverso un provvedimento statale, è ritenuta la più antica università laica e statale del mondo. Tuttavia, inizialmente l'ateneo non era pubblico, ma destinato alla formazione dei futuri uomini di governo.
