La Sheriff è la seconda compagnia della Transnistria e la più importante e visibile di questa regione della Moldavia. La società è presente in quasi tutti i settori di mercato. Varie fonti riferiscono che la società è coinvolta profondamente nel condizionamento della politica nazionale.
La Sheriff viene fondata il 23 giugno 1993 da Viktor Gušan e Il'ja Kazmaly, due ex membri dei servizi segreti, come società straniera a responsabilità limitata. Inizialmente la compagnia si occupò quasi esclusivamente di commercio, ma nel giro di pochi anni amplia la sua attività: infatti nel 1996 viene aperto il primo supermercato a Tiraspol. Nel 1997 vengono fondate la "Sheriff F.C." e la rete televisiva in MMDS "Televisione Sheriff" .
Il 21 aprile 1998 nasce la "Sheriff Construction Department", mentre l'anno successivo vengono attivate la "Delo", la società editoriale, e la "Mercedes-Benz Autocenter", la concessionaria Mercedes-Benz in esclusiva della regione.
