Il Reest è un torrente di torbiera che forma in gran parte il confine tra le province di Overijssel e Drenthe. Per i parametri olandesi, è unico il fatto che il Reest meandri ancora così fortemente. La valle del Reest (che varia in larghezza da circa 100 metri fino a 500 metri) offre un buon ambiente per le cicogne che si trovano presso la stazione delle cicogne De Lokkerij, vicino a Havixhorst e nell'area vicino alla Pieperij Drents. Oltre a questi uccelli notevoli, vivono anche tassi e volpi, e c'è una flora particolare, composta tra l'altro da carice settentrionale, grande pimpinella e canna striata. Inoltre, cresce la rara foglia di palude, chiamata Orchidea del Reest.
