Vierhouten è un villaggio nel comune di Nunspeet, nella provincia olandese di Gelderland. Si trova sulla Veluwe, tra Elspeet, Nunspeet e Vaassen. Vierhouten ha 700 abitanti. In passato, Vierhouten era chiamato Vierholten. Il nome dovrebbe riferirsi ai quattro boschi che circondano il villaggio. Questi sarebbero quindi il Vierhouterbos, il Vreebos, l'Elspeterbos e il Gortelsebos. Sebbene l'accuratezza della teoria sia messa in discussione, questa è comunque la più utilizzata. Un'altra teoria è che il nome provenga dalla famiglia Nunspeter Vierholt. Tuttavia, è più probabile che questa famiglia si sia fatta chiamare dal luogo e non viceversa.
