Non tutte le parti del nuovo Wieringermeerpolder si sono rivelate adatte all'agricoltura. Nel nord-est del polder il livello della falda acquifera rimaneva troppo alto. Qui il terreno dell'ex Zuiderzee era composto oltre che da argilla anche da suolo sabbioso. A causa della pressione dell'acqua del Waddenzee e dell'IJsselmeer si è sviluppata un'infiltrazione. Le acque sotterranee vengono spostate verso l'alto da uno strato contenente ferro e sale. Poiché queste aree non sono adatte all'agricoltura, sono stati piantati degli alberi.
Così è nato un giovane bosco, il Robbenoordbos. Purtroppo, però, quasi nessun albero è rimasto in piedi, dopo che dagli occupanti dell'epoca la diga dell'IJsselmeer è stata fatta esplodere (17 aprile 1945) e il Wieringermeerpolder si è riempito nuovamente in 2 giorni. Dopo la chiusura della diga (5 agosto 1945) e lo svuotamento del polder (11 dicembre 1945) è stato tutto ripiantato.
