Il Vaartsche Rijn o Vaartse Rijn è il nome di due brevi canali rispettivamente a Utrecht e Vreeswijk, Nieuwegein, nella provincia olandese di Utrecht. In origine, il Vaartsche Rijn era una importante via navigabile che collegava la città di Utrecht con il fiume Lek.
La prima fase del Vaartsche Rijn, noto anche come Rechte Rijn a differenza del Kromme Rijn, che si è fortemente insabbiato dopo la deviazione nel 1122, fu scavato nel 1127, rendendolo uno dei canali più antichi dei Paesi Bassi. Il primo tratto fu scavato tra la Stadsbuitengracht e l'attuale De Liesbosch. Nel mezzo del dodicesimo secolo, il Vaartsche Rijn fu prolungato verso il luogo Geyne, attraverso il successivo Doorslag dove una diga separava il canale dall'Hollandse IJssel. All'epoca, l'Hollandse IJssel era in aperta connessione con il Lek. In questo periodo, è nato lo strategico Castello di Oudegein per proteggere il importante centro commerciale.
