Il boezem era un tempo uno dei collegamenti più importanti nella storia della gestione delle acque. È il precedente boezem di drenaggio della polder Stolwijk da cui l'acqua in eccesso veniva scaricata inizialmente attraverso mulini e successivamente da pompe a Gouderak nel fiume Hollandse IJssel. L'area naturale adiacente (a sinistra) si chiama anche De Stolwijkse Boezem ed è composta da isole, acqua, boschi paludosi e prati umidi magri. A destra c'è ancora una vecchia chiusa con una paratoia.
