La Liesbos si trova a sud di Prinsenbeek nel comune di Breda, tra la ferrovia Roosendaal-Breda e l'A58 e di fronte al villaggio di Lies.
La foresta è grande circa 200 ettari ed è composta principalmente da alberi a foglia caduca. È la più grande foresta di querce estive antiche dei Paesi Bassi. Nelle aree più alte e secche sono stati piantati anche alberi di conifere. La foresta è gestita dal 1899 dall'Ente nazionale per le foreste. Il nome Liesbos deriva dal villaggio di Lies che si trova qui. Nel 1200 l'area fu descritta come la tenuta di Hage e Lies. Sin dal medioevo si è stabilita una colonia di aironi.
