L'acqua della Braakman e del Sassche Gat si infrangeva fino al diciannovesimo secolo contro l'attuale Zandstraat. Zandstraat è stata a lungo una comunità agricola, con tra l'altro una falegnameria (1910), un'azienda di costruzione di carretti e un laboratorio di attrezzature/pellami. Gli artigiani sono scomparsi, ma gli agricoltori sono ancora presenti. Il percorso attorno a Zandstraat è una concatenazione di argini con pioppi, sentieri erbosi, stradine ghiaiose e campi. Di conseguenza, questo itinerario a piedi attorno al villaggio tra Sas van Gent e Philippine è tutt'altro che noioso.
