La Meozia, nota anticamente come "Palude Meotide" o "Palude Meotica", era una regione paludosa e di mare basso da identificare coll'attuale Mar d'Azov, braccio marino del Ponto Eusino chiuso dalla Tauride , al confine tra Ucraina e Russia.
Abitata fin dall'antichità dalle popolazioni sarmatiche e scitiche. A partire dal 250 fu occupata dalle popolazioni gotiche degli Eruli, che da qui per tutto il resto del III secolo compirono scorrerie, saccheggi e devastazioni lungo le rive delle province romane del Ponto Eusino.
