A Nyköping, la regina Cristina ha fatto una breve sosta al castello dove visse la regina madre Maria Eleonora per salutarsi. Fu l'ultima volta che le due donne si incontrarono: Maria Eleonora sarebbe morta nel giro di un anno. Il rapporto tra loro era problematico, anche a causa degli anni bui che madre e figlio vissero insieme a Nyköping dopo la morte del padre di re Cristina, re Gustavo Adolfo. Il castello bruciò insieme alla città nel 1665. Successivamente parti del complesso furono ricostruite. Del castello originario, la portineria (tra il castello e la chiesa di fronte) è quella meglio conservata. Oggi l'edificio è utilizzato come museo storico. (Incisione del XVII secolo, frammento.)
