Il Budžak è la cosiddetta Bessarabia Vecchia, il territorio storico che costituiva l'antica Bessarabia.
Comunemente viene riportata prevalentemente come Bessarabia storica o anche Bessarabia vecchia come pure Bessarabia del Sud; si tratta di una zona prevalentemente composta da distese steppiche e paludose, a sud della Bessarabia, regione storica dell'odierna Moldavia. L’area di Budžak oggi fa parte dell'odierna Oblast' di Odessa, provincia sud occidentale dell'Ucraina, affacciata sul Mar Nero.
