La Desna è un fiume dell'Europa orientale, affluente di sinistra del Dnepr. Scorre per circa 1.130 km nella zona nella Russia europea, in Bielorussia e in Ucraina.
Nasce nell'Oblast' di Smolensk, nella Russia occidentale, dalle alture di Smolensk, lascia le sorgenti a ovest-sud-ovest di Smolensk e vicino a El'nja e prosegue fino a Naleti. Da qui fluisce in direzione sud verso Brjansk, dopo la quale riceve le acque del Sudost provenienti da nord; dopo aver attraversato il confine ucraino, riceve le acque del Sejm, proveniente da est, e raggiunge Černihiv. Proseguendo verso sud si immette, poco a valle della capitale ucraina di Kiev, nel Dnepr.
