Mentre viaggiava con la moglie Jacqueline, con il governatore John Connally e la moglie di quest'ultimo Nellie a bordo della limousine presidenziale, Kennedy fu ferito mortalmente nella Dealey Plaza da colpi di fucile sparati dall'operaio, attivista ed ex militare Lee Harvey Oswald.
