Deze plek op de Muziekberg, 150 meter boven de zeespiegel, was eertijds gelegen langs de heirweg Vloesberg - Etikhove, een aftakking van de grote heirweg Tongeren - Bavai. Rond een eeuwenoude beuk (boek) zou vroeger rechtszitting gehouden zijn en er stond ook een schandpaal waar boete gedaan werd. De plaatsnaam "Boetzittingstraat" zou dus op twee manieren kunnen verklaard worden.
