Salzburg is een statutair stad, de vierde van Oostenrijk naar bevolkingsgrootte, en de hoofdstad van de gelijknamige staat, Salzburg. Internationaal bekend om het prachtige historische centrum dat door de eeuwen heen is behouden en dat sinds 1997 door de UNESCO wordt beschermd. De stad is ook bekend als de wieg van Mozart en de zetel van het beroemde Salzburger Festival dat jaarlijks wordt gehouden.
