Gerardus Mercator werkte samen met Gemma Frisius en Van der Heyden aan een nieuwe aardglobe in 1536. Deze was bestemd voor de raadsheer van keizer Karel V, Maximilianus Transsylvanus. Deze globe is gelukkig bewaard gebleven en kan je zien in de Oesterreichse Nationalbibliothek. De globe heeft een diameter van 37cm.
