Op de dag voor Kerst 2013 werd tijdens graafwerken in de tuin van een woonst in de Peter Benoitlaan een bom uit WOII ontdekt. De buurt werd geëvacueerd en de bom werd snel door de DOVO dienst onschadelijk gemaakt. Dat hier een bom gevonden wordt is niet zo onwaarschijnlijk want het gehele gebied rondom het rangeerstation van Melle werd tijdens WO II gebombardeerd omdat men dacht dat dit het hoofdstation was dat gebruikt werd door de Duitsers. Het groot aantal bommen die hier vielen zou ook een verklaring zijn waarom hier nog zo veel verzakkingen in de weg zijn. Eenmaal de grond losgemaakt is door een bominslag blijft die grond jaren onstabiel en compacteert onder druk.
