Het oudheerlijke kasteel was oorspronkelijk een middeleeuws slot. Het was de zetel van de heerlijkheid van Munte en dus de verblijfplaats van de heren van Munte vanaf de 11e tot midden de 15e eeuw. Het kasteel heeft heel wat vijandelijke bestormingen doostaan en werd gedeeltelijk verwoest in latere oorlogen, maar werd rond 1900 verbouwd.
Vlakbij de zandstenen toegangspoort zien we de kasteelhoeve, die dateert uit de 16e of 17e eeuw.
Het kasteel en het domein zijn niet publiek toegankelijk.
