Victor Horta behoort tot de grote Art-Nouveau-architecten van Europa. Hij is geboren te Gent in 1861. Horta werd geboren in Gent als zoon van de schoenmaker Petrus Horta en Henrica Coppieters. Hij genoot middelbaar onderwijs aan het Koninklijk Atheneum aan de Ottogracht. De eerste jaren van zijn carrière werkte hij als interieurontwerper in Montmartre in Parijs. Eén van zijn topwerken van zijn talent als Art Nouveau-architect én inrichter staat in de Louizalaan, het Solvayhuis (1894). Later gaat hij over naar Art Deco. Een fraai voorbeeld vindt u vlak bij de Baron Hortastraat in Brussel: het Paleis voor Schone Kunsten, of Bozar. Deze ''''bijna verdoken tempel'''' is meesterlijk in al zijn complexiteit. Ander voorbeelden zijn het ''Volkshuis'' in Brussel. Het werd in 1965 met de grond gelijk gemaakt. Het werd vervangen door de blokkendoos ''''La Tour Blaton''''.
