Lokeren is een stad in de Belgische provincie Oost-Vlaanderen en ligt in het Waasland, ook wel Land van Waas genoemd, waarvan het de tweede belangrijkste stad is na Sint-Niklaas. De stad, gelegen aan de rivier de Durme, de Lede, en de autoweg E17, telt ruim 42.700 inwoners, die Lokeraars of Rapenfretters worden genoemd. Omdat Lokeren aan de Durme is gelegen, wordt de stad ook vaak "De Durmestad" genoemd. Lokerse paardenworst is officieel erkend als streekproduct.
