Hét fenomeen van het Waasland is ongetwijfeld zijn bolle akkers. In 1950 werden nog 35.000 bolle akkers geteld. Volgens Wikipedia zouden de vierkantige bolle akkers in één keer zijn aangelegd in de late Middeleeuwen . Er zijn tal van theorieën waarom die zouden zijn ontstaan. Eén daarvan is door circulair ploegen, waarbij steeds de aarde naar het centrum werd opgehoogd. Bolakkers zijn echter niet exclusief voor deze regio. Ze komen komen op meer plaatsen in België en Nederland voor, zoals rond Menen, in de Kempen en in Groningen.
