Ooit was Michelbeke een belangrijke hub want hier kon je opstappen op de tram langs het mijnwerkerspad, de ader voor de broodwinning voor menig inwoner in deze streek waar naast landbouw zo goed als geen tewerkstelling was .

Je vindt hier dan ook nog de relicten van een station en van het mijnwerkerspad (nu een populair fiets- en wandelpad).
