Tielt is een stad en gemeente in de Belgische provincie West-Vlaanderen. Ze ligt in de driehoek Gent, Brugge en Kortrijk. De stad telt ruim 20.000 inwoners en is de hoofdplaats van het arrondissement Tielt.
Tielt is ontstaan in de periode 5de-10de eeuw. De oudste vermelding in de vorm van Tiletum en dateert uit 1105. Het betreft een vermeldingen van de belasting die de heer van een Tieltse villa betaalde. Daarom werden in 2005 in de stad verschillende evenementen gehouden om '900 jaar Tielt op schrift' te vieren.
