De boerderij “Ooievaarsnest”, op de rand van de waardevolle Abeekvallei, is volgens plaatselijke overlevering de geboorteplaats van Pieter Bruegel de Oude. Het oorspronkelijke gebouw dateerde uit de 13e eeuw maar werd in 1866, na een brand, heropgebouwd.
In de 15e eeuw was het “Ooievaarsnest” eigendom van de graven van Hoorn. Een dreef met bomen verbond de boerderij met een watermolen langs de Abeek. Deze watermolen werd overgeplaatst naar het Provinciaal Openluchtmuseum in Bokrijk
